Sweeteners are substances that give food a sweet taste and are a type of food additive. Sweeteners are divided into natural sweeteners and artificial sweeteners.
According to China's current Standard for the Use of Food Additives (GB2760-2014), neotame, ammonium glycyrrhizate, monopotassium and tripotassium glycyrrhizate, D-mannitol, sweetener, maltitol and maltitol liquid, lactitol, sucralose and aspartame can be used as sweeteners in foods such as bread, pastries, biscuits, beverages and condiments.
The advantages of sweeteners include five main aspects.
I. It is chemically stable, not easily subject to decomposition and failure, and has a relatively wide range of application.
Second, it does not participate in the body's metabolism. Most high-powered sweeteners are excreted after oral consumption and do not provide energy, making them suitable for special consumer groups such as diabetics, obese people and elderly people who need to control their energy and carbohydrate intake.
Third, high sweetness, generally more than 50 times the sweetness of sucrose, some can be hundreds or thousands of times.
Four, the price is cheap, the price under the same sweetness conditions is lower than cane sugar.
Fifth, suitable for the substrate of oral microorganisms, will not cause dental caries.
Sweetener is an important food additive in the food industry. It has been widely used by more than 100 countries and regions such as the United States, the European Union and China, and some varieties have been used for more than 100 years.
It is safe to use sweeteners reasonably according to standards, but high attention should still be paid to the use of sweeteners beyond the range and limits.
